Frequently Asked Questions

What is Health?

That quote comes from Dr Moshe Feldenkrais and is my absolute favourite definition of heath I have come across!

What would your dream life look like?  Broken down on a day to day basis?

And then what parts of your health need improvement to get you living those dreams?

What Makes Me So Great?

So this is not an FAQ I actually get, but it’s a good one to know the answer to.

There is a lot going on in your body when you are trying to recover your health.

It is important to find out the cause(s) of your symptoms so that you can not only get well but stay well.

Through targeted lab testing, which you can do in the privacy of your own home, I assess and interpret which areas of your body we need to work on.

These tests can include breath tests, stool tests, autoimmune panels, and blood serum testing.

We need to identify and resolve your “limiting factor”.

What area is holding you back at each level of health you are seeking?

  • Slow, progressive burnout form juggling too many balls for too long?
  • The loss of a loved one causing your hormonal system to crash?
  • A bout of food poisoning in Asia many years ago that has left your guts a bit of a mess ever since?

Even though you are feeling it in your digestive system, we will need to resolve any other imbalances that will be holding you back.

We will be using evidence based protocols that have helped hundreds of others like you.

And my personal experience of being sick with IBS, SIBO, parasites and fatigue means I fully relate to and understand the process of getting better.  It is from this place that I can answer your questions, explain your symptoms and help you to understand what is going on in your body.

Many clients just like you have recovered from chronic illness, often going on to feel even better than they did before they got sick.  You can read some of their stories here.

What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy is a distinct system of health care that addresses the root cause of illness or disease and promotes health and healing using natural therapies.

Treatment modalities may include clinical nutrition, herbal and homeopathic medicine, physical treatments, vitamins minerals, amino acids therapy, etc.

The primary goal of naturopathic treatment is to address the cause of the illness rather than simply treating or suppressing symptoms.  While naturopathic care helps to alleviate specific symptoms, Naturopaths are primarily concerned with addressing the root cause of an illness: the focus is more on the why of a disease than the what.

What can I expect in a Naturopathic consultation?

Your first appointment with me will be around an hour and a half and will take place over Skype or FaceTime.

We will go through your intake forms together, digging deeper where needed.   Naturopaths like to know everything about everything, so expect to discuss not just your symptoms but also things such as: your daily lifestyle, your eating habits, sleep cycles, energy levels, hormones, how often you get sick etc.

We will also discuss any lab work and previous treatments you may have tried so that we can define a clear way forward for you.

What conditions do you specialize in?

They say that we teach what we most need to learn.

I became a Naturopath to learn how to solve my own digestive symptoms: bloating, constipation, fatigue, adult acne as well as more kilos than I cared to carry.

From this personal experience I have dedicated my practice to specialising in the Digestive System.

Hippocrates stated over 2000 years ago “all disease begins in the gut”,  I take this further and say that all health begins in the gut as well.

To assist with bringing the whole body back into balance I work with you to get your digestive system functioning at its best.

I assist with conditions such as:

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO)

Celiacs Disease

Crohns Disease

Ulcerative Colitis

Food Allergies and Intolerances

Histamine Intolerance

Parasite and Bacterial Infections

Candida Overgrowth

These can show up with symptoms such as: bloating, constipation or diarrhoea or both, anxiety, cravings, edema, skin conditions (acne, eczema, hives), thinning hair, puffy eyes, brain fog, fatigue, burping, belching, excess gas, or heartburn (some or all can apply).

Can I meet you before making an appointment?

I would love that.

I offer a complimentary 15 minute pre-consultation call as a meet and greet.

No treatment advice is given during this appointment, it is simply for you and I to meet, discuss how I work, and determine if our goals for health and wellness mesh before you make the investment to work with me.

Why are all your consultations online?

Online consultations are simple, accessible, and can be done anywhere.

I work with clients all over the world, and just like me a lot of them tend to be busy professionals that are on the move a fair amount of the time.

So through the online mediums such as Skype / FaceTime / Zoom etc we are able to maintain treatment momentum and consistency.  It is this consistency and dedication that get the best results in the shortest time frame.

How does an online appointment work?

After booking your appointment you will have access to my extensive intake form.  I require this form back at least 24 hours prior as it will help me to really understand your health challenges, past and present.

If you have had any lab work done already I will ask you to send these through beforehand too.

At the time of your appointment I will contact you via the details you have provided for Skype / Face Time / Phone.

If you do not have a Skype account you can set one up here.

You can use Skype via the web or through an app on your smart phone or tablet.

Initial consultations last around 60-90 minutes and follow up appointments are generally 30 minutes.

Post consultation all protocol notes will be shared with you in your personal Google Drive folder, as well as any test results, visual aids and resources.

Should I require you to do further testing I will organise for kits to be sent to you or refer you back to your GP.

Any products needed I order using local-to-you distributors and will arrive at your door within a few days.

Why do you do monthly plans?

My experience as a Naturopath has shown this to be the most effective approach when it comes to healing the big stuff.

Wellness is built over time, not in a single visit.

It takes time to implement changes, create a new routine, work through resistance or difficulties and uncover the root cause of what may be making you unwell.  The support built into a monthly plan allows for us to enter into a partnership, get to the nitty gritty and really create some lasting change.

Will I have to take supplements forever?

Ideally, supplements are used to push your body in the right direction and remind it of its normal physiology.

Overtime, once the body has regained balance, how you eat, rest and relax, and exercise will maintain your new level of health.

To me, successful healing means that you go on to be empowered to manage your daily health independently.

How long will it take to get better?

It depends.

The gut-healing time of people who don’t have autoimmune conditions, food sensitivities, or other inflammatory health issues varies, but studies suggest that it’s somewhere between two and 12 weeks.

For chronic cases, a general rule of thumb is to expect one month of treatment for every year you have been unwell.   Ie 5 years, 5 months / 12 years, 12 months etc…

Health comes back exponentially though.   So you won’t be waiting a year to “get better”, you’ll feel increasingly better month by month.

A treatment plan can be considered a starting point as everyone heals at a different rate and can be altered at any time based on your progress.

What testing do you do?

A Functional Medicine approach to chronic illness often involves testing the three main body systems; digestive system, hormonal system and detoxification system.

I reserve testing to when exact numbers are needed for optimising your treatment protocol.

They can include any of the following:

Comprehensive Digestive Stool Analysis

SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) Breath Test

Candida, Bacteria & Parasite Stool Test

Food Sensitivities Dry Blood Spot Test (IgG)

Leaky Gut Urine Test

Salivary Hormone Profile Test

Functional Liver Profile Saliva & Urine Test

Organic Acids Urine Test

How does testing work?

The majority of functional lab tests can be performed wherever you are with “at home test kits”.

I use SIBOTest in Australia for all my hydrogen breath testing.   They ship kits worldwide and you can even order them yourself here.   If you don’t have a practitioner yet you can enter in my details on the form.

Pathology labs around the world are same same, but different.   If needed we use local labs closest to you.

Once you have completed your tests and returned them to the lab for processing, results are typically emailed through to me about a week later.

Are you covered by private health insurance?

I am registered with all the major private health funds in Australia.

So depending on your level of cover you may or may not be able to claim back on our consultations (you will need to check with your provider).

Can I see you and my GP at the same time?

Lots of people see both a general practitioner (MD) and naturopathic practitioner (ND) for their health care needs.

I love working in partnership with other practitioners to ensure you get the best care possible.

How often will we have an appointment?

As all appointments are included in my monthly plans you are in control of your schedule.

You get all the time you need to tell your story, ask questions, or clarify your plan. Your visit schedule is tailored to you, so you get support and guidance every step of the way.

A typical pattern is to have weekly appointments in the beginning, which can then be spaced further apart as your health improves and healthier habits become the new normal.

What are your rates?

Working with me is an investment in your life.

An initial one hour consultation is $185.

A 3 month package is $1470.

And a 6 months investment is $2300.

(monthly payment pans available)

My packages are inclusive of all unlimited consultations and email support.   I take care of all product sourcing and delivery as well as organising any testing required.

(Prices in USD)

How long are your plans?

As wellness is built over time and not in a single visit, I have requirement that you commit to three months of working on your health with me.

After the initial three months you can choose to extend your plan or move to individual sessions.

How do I pay?

Payments for single appointments are made at the time of booking using any major credit card/debit card or PayPal.

Direct deposit is also available on request.

Plans are deducted from your nominated credit or debit card automatically for the month in advance.

*Please note that I never store your credit card details.  Payments are processed by Stripe – a certified Level 1 PCI DSS compliant payment provider and merchant.  On my end I only ever see the last 4 digits to identify the card.
